Pt Dume dive report |
Posted by Andy on May 27, 2024 at 06:04:50: The sat images chlorophyll indicated a high level of plankton in the Santa Monica Bay due to cold water upwellings. Pt dume looked the best option. Water was 55 on the surface with brown tinge vis 5ft. The bottom was 54 deg and clearer 15ft vis. Large carpet of Sand dollars and most of the vegetation has gone from the top of the sand drop off. Strong current from the North. The bay was probably much worse with plankton. Usual macro critters in the small scrub, file fish, flatworm, nudibranchs, crabs, while being bombed by sealions. Parking was packed with rock climbers and hikers. No other divers, used to be many on a weekend.
