Day Three - Anacapa Island

The overnight trip from Santa Barbara Island to Anacapa was a little bumpy to say the least. It was like the boat was running over a wash board most of the night, with a few good dips thrown in. Two days of hard diving and, some partying, was starting to show. The few who were up early knew that we stopped for a brief look at Santa Cruz island and moved on to Anacapa as the water at Cruz was a thick shade of green.

At Anacapa we made four more dives. The visibility was 15 feet or so and the water colder than what we had experienced the previous two days.

I mostly took underwater photos with my Nikonos macro set up. There were lots of Spanish Shawl nudibranchs at every dive site. Even more interesting was the prevalence of nudibranch eggs. I couldn't find parents for most of the eggs, but when those eggs hatch, Anacapa is going to be crawling with nudibranchs. These are a few of my photos from Anacapa.

The last two dives were in the marine protected area. The shallow areas in the thick canopy of kelp were beautiful. Huge Sheephead checked me out during the dives. I also noticed that the treefish swim out in the open here. That is something that I rarely have seen anywhere else.

Our awesome three day trip on the Peace was coming to an end. There were scallop bags in the freezer, lots of images (digital and film) in the camera bags, and a boatload of divers recovering from total immersion.

The crew of the Peace did an outstanding job of making this trip an excellent one. Their work never ended and they must have been exhausted, but it never showed. To Captain Kevin, and crew Steve, Bob, and Brayton thank you so much.

A very special thanks to Trish in the Galley. The food was nothing short of amazing and right when you thought it couldn't get any better it did. My personal favorites were the fresh baked almond cookies and that heavenly ice cream pie, Trish, you are awesome!

Hope that you enjoyed this trip report. Until Next Time…….
