We had a similar thing happen to us on a Reef Seekers trip some years ago off the backside of Clemente. I was right under the boat and thought the engines had fired up. I heard a "BANG" and then felt a compression wave, like someone smacked me in the chest. No one on the boat heard a thing. Thought I was going crazy until three or four other divers came out of the water and reported the same thing.

We called Caltech when we got back and and were told there was a small (3.2) earthquake within 5 miles of where we were diving. They said it was the first time they'd ever had reports of divers experiencing this underwater.
