Dave,
These 'divers' didn't forget to do anything, they simply chose not to do certain things. Many things as a matter of fact. There is a big difference.
It's not a matter of controlled risk taking, which, we all do everyday of our lives. These people ignored simple standard protocols and by pure dumb luck survived. Would you still be defending them if they were uncertified? Why not? Using your logic they were just subjecting themselves to everyday risk.
As divers, boaters, drivers, pilots, etc. we agree to abide by certain self imposed standards. If we slip occasionally, thats an opps. But, when we make a decision to ignore these standards thats unacceptable. If it isn't why do we set standards in the first place?
Last I'll say on this topic; These fools screwed up by thier intentional negligence and in no uncertain terms should thier conduct be accepted, condoned or excused.
