Hello to all our diving family back home!

We know that this BBS is dedicated to California diving, but since Jan and I have been trained as divers in So.California, and have received so much positive influence from our scuba family back home, we thought we’d share a few snapshots from our ongoing vacation in Maui. This is our first time diving away from the temperate waters of the So.California coast. In just two days – Tuesday and Wednesday (yesterday) we went from being ‘shark-virgins’ to having dove with lots of reef sharks, having done a drift dive in a screaming current (to 130ft) off the back wall of Molokini to the famous Shark Condos, and having seen magnificent manta rays on two different dives. Wow! What a difference a couple of days can make in one’s diving resume! And we’ve still got a few shore dives planned before we return home.

We’ll post a more detailed report on the francisquito.org web site when we return, but here are a few photos fresh out of the camera:

The view from our hotel balcony this morning. Pretty tough to take each day. NOT! The island of Lanai is in the far distance.

Typical scene, back wall of Molokini crater. Visibility was 150ft+. Unbelieveable.

Shark patrolling the boundary between Molokini wall and the great deep.

Manta ray, Molokini.

Squirrel fish, waiting for night fall; Molokini.

Exploring remains of WWII-era tank, southwest coast of Maui.

Turtle in engine compartment of WWII tank.

Typical lava tube swim-thru, Cathedrals area of Lanai.

Beautifully patterned eel, Lanai.

Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (Rectangular Trigger Fish), shore dive off Kaanapali, Maui west coast.

Aloha, and best wishes to all!

Dick and Jan
