I thought long and hard about buying the spare air because it was considerably less money than my pony system. However, I think that spare airs are very dangerous in that they are a false sense of security because they provide barely enough air for a person like me to reach the surface safely, especially if you are really deep. With the pony, if the need ever occured to rely on a redundant air source, I know I have at least 15 minutes of air which I can do a comfortable safety stop with or without a buddy. Also this eliminates putting your parnter in any risk of problems associated from sharing air.
