Fins off entry is definitely a skill that should be taught and it kills me when instructors don't teach that method. I know that instructors have to teach the backwards shuffle, but I think in the majority of situations a fins off entry is more appropriate.
Last weekend at Casino Point I noticed a number of divers crawling down the steps with their fins on. I was baffled by this, but maybe thats just me.
