Your response to the person posing as a F&G or
other State officer would be appropriate. There is
however a mechanism in place for the everyday
person to report illegal take on the boats, also
via cell phone.

Another scenario ( and yes, hypothetical )-

Let's say you were on a boat and another diver or
crew member saw you bring up an ab and place it
in your game bag full of urchin and sea cukes.
How would you respond if this diver or crew member
didn't tell you they were going to enforce the
F&G regs by calling 1-800-poacher (or whatever
the annonymous 800 line is)?

What happens is that the F&G will attempt to meet
the boat at the dock and search everone's game
bags, plus the boat's top & drop freezer and
refers. I saw this exact thing happen early last
year on a boat that does mostly N Channel Island
trips. Was any illegal game found, yes - but it
wasn't what they were expecting.

Would things be different if the diver had announced
to the charters that he or she was planning on
calling the 800 hotline? I don't think so since
they did not represent themselves as a state
authorized enforcing agent, and therefore, no
mis-representation or impersonation.
