They may have such a low number of required dives in order to develop an express train to qualify divemasters

DING, DING, DING!!!!!!!!! Sound of bells and whistles in the background!!!!!!

That's precisely why they do it and that's precisely why PADI has the bad rap that they have.. They have done everything they can to earn it!!!!

There should be NO such thing as a fast track to express people up the food chain inot leadership and/or instructional positions!!!!!!

A slower more measured approach would actually make that Card mean something again. The current leadership at PADI has so debased the notion of training and education that a PADI C-card isn't worth a damn anymore..

They have sold their integretiy in favor od gaining market share and have long since lost any respect that they once had..

I'm all for positive and constructive comments as has been suggested by another poster, but the problem with that is that the currnet PADI leadership has chosen a different course of action and any attempts at constructive discussions that may preclude gains in market share are met with the company line * Our lawyers have told us that these are appropriate enough standards* and our instructors are precluded from doing any less, or anything more. It is so absolutely absurd that PADI will not allow their instructors to deviate from the course outline even if it is for aditional skills... If is is NOT in the PADI course the instructor is precluded from doing it...

The surprising thing to me is that while PADI has there fair share of good and well-intended DM's and Instructor's, we all know that they have there fari share of under qualified and poorly trained DM's and Instructors and as such calls into question the respectability of any PADI ranking... The membership needs to be more vocal because as is often the case acquiesence equates to acceptance...
