This past week has been a bad one for Monterey Bay.
Stronger waves with a longer period have stirred up
the bottom, leaving viz at 5'. You'd be better off
getting on a boat and heading for Carmel where it's
doing ok.
I did the sea lion routine at Breakwater on Saturday
and found the murk might affect them too. They all
wanted to see us and at any point there were 3 or 4
a few feet away passing by.
You have a better shot of good offshore conditions on
the boats in winter, so you probably should plan it
that way. Shore diving is less predictable.
