Let me respectfully point out that the purpose of a crotch strap is to prevent the backplate from floating up on your shoulders. Therefor, if the weight pouches are attached to the backplate, and you without weights or BC are positively buoyant, a crotch strap is superflous. One other idea you might try - though it's an old one - is a rubber strap set. It's flexible, strong (though admittedly not as strong as nylon), stretches to compensate for exposure suit compression, easy to doff and don in water or out. And the friction of the rubber against your wet or dry suit holds the rig in place without a crotch strap. I've used one for years, it's very comfortable. Not strong enough for doubles though.
