Rather than a reel, I would suggest a simple spool
with cave line on it and a SS double ender. You
can get them with various capacities (mine is a 150')
and stow them quite nicely into your drysuit or
belt pocket. This was you don't have to clip a big
reel off onto your d-rings and add to the drag
issue. Besides, a good reel can be quite costly
compared to the simple and effective spool. Plus,
spools aren't likely to jam or foul as a reel can.

I am always practicing using my spool as a jon-line
when doing deco stops on the anchor or mooring line,
it's helps pass the time.
