I spent 2 weeks in Fiji recently as well (oct 15-28), did 1 week on land at Musket Cove (great resort) and one week on the Nai'a. Can not say enough great things about the Nai'a. I thought the diving from shore was pretty good (as good as I've seen, but everyone laughed at me and said.. "wait till next week". Well hot diggy damn, were they right. If you go to Fiji visit the resorts, they are nice, but the real diving is on the liveaboards.
Regarding the coups, the locals pretty much laugh it off, it's occurring on the other side of the main island and doesn't affect tourists (or so they claim.)
The people in Fiji are some of the greatest you will ever meet, they honestly are interested in you and your family. The water was a little colder than I expected, 77-80.
My buddy is trying to convince me to a night dive this weekend in Redondo.. hhmm.. my motivation is just not there.
