No argument from me. I think MHK had it right the first time. Running a line allows, and encourages, non-regulars to penetrate farther. That's where the goodies are. That's the problem for the regulars. The Doria is "their" wreck, afterall.

Secondarily, in heavily trafficed areas, Gimble's Hole, for example, running multiple lines can get in the way of access to stairways and china closets. I agree, the issue seems fairly theoretical, but remember that most of the regulars are diving several decks down on air. Even a little old guideline can seem like a life threatening event when you're so narced you're having a psychotic episode.
