In regards to your comment about 1 piece webbing, that's quite a stretch to lay the blame for Tony Maffatone's death on his inability to get out of said webbing because it lacked quick releases. Hell his 7-tank rig which you so generously described as "a work of art" was a death trap from it's inception, it was only a matter of time until a vital part failed (and there were so many possibilites), or he swithched to the wrong gas at depth thereby killing himself. The rig must have weighed an enourmous amount above or below water, quick releases would just have been another failure point-especially with all that weight. 1-piece webbing should always be rigged loose enough to climb out of easily. You use your waist belt to hold your rig tight.
