Further to leaking hoses: It amazes me how few people take the trouble to change out their hoses periodically. Jim made reference to HP hoses blistering before they blow. It's always a good idea to replace all hoses at least every couple of years. Allowing a hose to get to the point of blistering means you should have replaced it long before.

Also, as mentioned in a previous post, a bubble check should be performed before every dive by a buddy.

Finally, I rinse my regs in a tub after a dive day still attached to the tank and pressurized. Not only does that prevent getting any water in the first stage, it also allows me to check for leaks.
