If the 100% markup were excessive and unjustified, you could expect to see other dive shops raking in the cash with a 75% markup.
That 100% markup goes to pay things like rent (so you have an actual location you can go to to see, touch, and try on those booties), salaries (so you have someone to fetch your size from the stock room, or maybe even in rare cases give you some gear advice), light and heat, the air compressor, insurance, and all the multitude of things that go into running a retail store.
