Even though I've been a wreck diver since before basic certification, let alone Wreck Specialty courses, war memorial sites have always been off limits to artifact recovery. I believe the first protected site is the Arizona in Pearl Harbor.
And to the gentleman who characterized us as wreck "pillagers", there are many wreck sites, world-wide, where the recovery, restoration, and display of marine artifacts is perfectly legal and encouraged. But the elite preservationists are pushing hard for us to leave ALL artifacts "in situ" for Mer Madre to destroy.
