Eric,
I have a 25 you'd be welcome to try, but it's old and rough and on the far end of the state. A better idea would be to buy a used outboard. Make an offer on a motor for sale contingent upon a sea trial on your boat. This is standard practice for boats, and you certainly wouldn't buy a used o/b without trying it first.
Burden the dory with a reasonable dive load and see how easily she planes. Look for 16-20 Kts at 2/3 throttle. That's all the speed you can use in any kind of sea, and range suffers at high speed or WOT. Depending on the dory, expect to need 60 or more hp.
If you're set on a new o/b, you could probably make the buy with the same contingency if you let the dealer size the motor for the boat. Give him a look at the dory, specify the load and the expected performance. If the motor won't perform then the deal is off.
