"The DIR demos are a good idea, but the only way
to educate the masses is to take those same demos
to the certifying agencies and show them how to
teach safe diving practices. If more OW1 grads
were open to the idea of DIR, manufacturers would
jump on the bandwagon and prices would lower into
the range of Joe Sixpack Diver."
Do you whole heartedly agree with this statement
you wrote?
If so, then you understand why we do what we do.
At the demos, on the newsgroups, on the BBS's, on
the boats, on the beaches - our position is to let
every one know about the system and answer all
questions we can with the direct and first hand
knowlege we have. The mainstream agencies have made
no bones about the fact that DIR if caught onto by
the masses, would degenerate their customer base
unless they too adapted the same type of program
style and phylosophy.
The tiny percent of all divers you noted that dive
DIR is correct for the sport market, but what would
you expect after just over a year of promoting it?
It all has to start somewhere, just like the dying
tech agencies requirement for deep air certification,
explicit solo diving, NITROX, diving w/o inflation,
etc.
Over the steel tanks issue with wetsuits, if you
are diving a single steel, you had better be
able to swim it up w/o air in your BC. The DIR
practice of not diving steels wet is for double
tank setups, especially the really heavy 104's
or 112's. The drysuit is now your backup inflation
source should something go wrong.
Thanks Dude -
