Dive computers are a natural progression and how can you fault them for being more conservative than the tables thereby increasing safety
Computer are not more conservative than tables.. Where did you get that from???
The tables and the computer are both based on the Buhlman algorithm and as such do not vary with respect to the calculations.. The reason for the added BT's when diving a computer is that a computer is programed to recalculate your dive at given intervals ( usually 30 seconds) so it allows for a diver doing a multi-level profile, whereas the tables are based on PLANNED time, ie; I'll go to 60' for 40 minutes, but should you wind up at 60' for 20 minutes and then 30' for 20' using the tables you wouldn't be able to achieve a recalcutaion because you've planned your dive for 60' for 40'..
Bear in mind that a computer can only calculate what it's programed to do, it doesn't miraculously know hoe long you can stay at X depth...
