Dive computers are a natural progression and how can you fault them for being more conservative than the tables thereby increasing safety?. If you compare published accuracy and reliability (mtbf) figures for computers vs. depth gauges computers come out ahead, computers are spec'd at depth accuracy +-1 foot I don't know any SPG that accurate and I have had more SPGs fail than computers.
Todays air integrated computers do not take up any more space than a SPG so there is no console to increase drag.
Maybe we should all go back to writing letters and posting them VIA US mail rather than use the BBS (computer), to preserve our knowledge of handwriting and penmanship.
