Senate Bill 241, the bill to create a Marine Preservation Endowment Fund which would preserve many of our offshore oil platforms for recreational fishing and diving, today passed the California State Senate on a 21-8 (with 10 abstentions). The bill now moves to the State Assembly for consideration. The first Assembly hearings are expected to be in early March.
Thanks to all who took the time to call and write your Senators. Each call made a difference -- the bill needed all 21 votes to get out of the Senate. We'll likely need the same type of effort to pass through the Assembly.
