May I throw in my position with Chris.
From lots of diving from small boats and large for 30 years, the hazard from problems at the boat
are far greater than from solo. Anchors slip, like at bird rock and China harbor for me.
Problem currents are just a regular hazard. Try the pinnacles of Catalina, Nic or the
Horseshoe kelp for cases where current hazards are the rule, not the exception.
For that matter, I always say yhat I feel that currents are the greatest hazard for shore divers
as well (especially up north). No danger you encounter uw is as frequent as currents.
