Dear Deep Blue; I would say to start with you should go to the city of Avalon and dive the Casino Point. They have a roped off area just for divers, which means no overhead boat traffic, an air truck right there to get air fills, restraunts with food close by, but more importantly, they have concrete steps with handrails that you can walk down and plop into the water without having to climb over rocks. There is plenty to see at Casino Point, including 3 - 4 ships that were purposely sunk, old dive platforms, and lots of kelp forests. The viz is usually quite good with a bad day of about 30 feet. Good days get up to approx. 100 foot viz. Getting to Avalon is very easy also by taking the 50 mins. boat over to Avalon from Long Beach on the Catalina Express. It costs $ 40.00 round trip and you can do this in one day and its very easy. Bring you significant other so he or she can go shopping or bar hopping, if they don't dive. Enjoy !
