Catalina Island

I'm an East Coast diver, Both Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico(Panhandle) and have been asked by a few friends to go diving near Catalina Island , can anyone give me any input on this? What is the diving like there? Is there somewhere else you'd recommend instead fo there?
