I realize I'm a bit of a diving dinosaur, but when I was trained in Australia in 1964 we dove wet and with steel, no PFD, and weighted to be positive on the surface. When the PFD was introduced some years later it became a piece of redundant equipment. I still treat it as such, using it only to fine tune my bouyancy at depth. Why is this such a convoluted issue?
