Naui says that generally breathing should be deeper than normal so if I'm taking that deep breathe in during my safety stop and a 10' swell comes over head as I'm reaching max inhalation then I'm at a depth of 25' before I exhale. Then your depth would recede to 5' as the swell passes that is a huge change in pressure. Maybe that is illogical but Jim Hoffman brought up this swell issue. You are saying this isn't a problem if I keep my airway open? So the pressure increase will override the function of my diaphram? When I say override I mean force air backup the airway. I'm not sure I want to take that chance by taking those deep breathes at shallow depths during heavy swells and I've dived those conditions.
