"I think it would be less dangerous for you if your buddy carried a pony..."
BRAVO!!!!!!! that's EXACTLY what i believe in and
what i've suggested to others on this bbs before.
i definitely agree w/you there! = : D
if i and my buddy each have our own redundant
air supply, then we can rely more on ourselves
and less on others to help us in the immediacy
of a situation.
however, surprisingly enough, some on this bbs
keep advocating complete and utter reliance on
a buddy, whether you know them beforehand or not.
i think THAT is more of a false sense of security
than each diver carrying one's own pony.
as for monitoring one's air supply, that of course
goes w/o saying, and i have to confess that my
buddy and i check each other's gas supply about
5 times w/in one dive. so, checking air supply
(in my case) is not neglected or taken lightly.
however, shit can still happen and one should indeed
be as much prepared for it as possible. one
reason to have a redundant system is not exclusively
for out-of-air scenarios, but instead it can
help in a gear malfunction situation.
anyway...
