Tim,

Those are all good reasons to use a snorkle.

As for drag I can say I found times when I was hanging on to a spot and the surge was flapping my snorkle like a flag. It was quite annoying. Other times I found it got in the way when I burried my head into a hole looking for lobster or whatever. In some cases it would cause my mask to flood. Finally while surface swimming there would be the occassonal bit of water that would enter the top of the snorkel. It was just a nuisence. The reg is so much easier to breath from. The key is "I" keep some air in my tank for the return trip. Not all your passengers do that.

I too was LA certified. I can't tell you how many snorkels I have lost since then.
