I agree. I can't hurt to get more training. While PADI might leave some with a bad taste in their mouth it's still better than going out and diving with only the training from OW.
I got certified through PADI and have so far taken the classes up to Rescue Diver. The Rescue class was MUCH more useful than the AOW but you can't skip the AOW.
At the very least, by taking the AOW you will be gaining some "supervised" experience. In my "deep dive" for the AOW class we only went to 81 feet. Tell your parents that just because you're in the class you are not going to 130 feet. It all depends on the instructor.
