Up until a few years ago I dove "wet steel" and compensated for negative buoyancy at depth with my BC. Isn't that what they're called: buoyancy "compensators"? And if the power inflator failed? Manually inflate or drop the weight belt. Simple. I even practiced from time to time, emptying the BC and sending my weight belt up on a lift bag, following it to the surface perfectly calm and controlled. I already knew that I was neutrally buoyant at 15 fsw in my wet suit and 500 lbs or so in my steel 72. So what's the big deal. COMPENSATE!!
