And it was:
1) free of charge
2) got a chance to touch, wear and swim their setup.
3) got to listen to couple of hours long lecture that made me a better diver.
4) noone was pimping anything. Just sharing their opinions. Not a sales booth or anything. These guys really do it for free and earn 0 dollars for it. They even pay for it. They consider it fun! They are crazy!
5) O yeah.. and bbq was on MHK (who is, by the way, getting much nicer recently):).

Sincerely I think your NAUI instructor is pissed, cos he thinks he will loose money you would give him to take Master Diver course. Or that he will no longer be the "best diver around" for you. Anyway.. The worst that may happen is that you end up diving Casino Point for the whole day, right? For a price of ferry, gear and airfills it's better deal than going on a boat :). And it's shallow and there will be a whole lot of divers around. Doesn't is sound like a good place to practice, even on your own?
