No, I try to avoid an empty bag and if it's empty, you just fold it inside itself. Done carefully, it's about as small as if it were rolled up. Also, you can put some game in a folded bag before you have to pull the inside out again. Does your method with velcro allow for easy one handed opening? That is critical.
Actually, there is another trade off. Net bags drag much less than canvas, but sometimes I like canvas for another reason.
