"...There is more to this [than] is presently
given on the internet."
Excellent point bug-boy!
I have come to realize there are more and more people
out there attempting to learn everything they feel
they could possibly need for their diving
practices on the Internet by visiting X or Y sites.
They come out from their online learning experiences
quoting those sites as if it were the gospel, where
in truth they really needed to understand the context
of the statements before either embracing or
casting them aside.
That's the argument I have some those who think
they have DIR figured out and then call it bunk.
It's also the same argument I have for cyber divers
who think just because they don't dive deep or in
OE's like in FL, the practice isn't for them because
they consider the practice 'dangerous' for CA
sport diving... even in less than 100'. You cannot
become a competent diver in the skills and mindset,
nor can you make a real fountational judgement on
the practice unless you have taken at least a
fundamental course. All the online text and DIR
demos in the world does not a DIR disciplined
diver make. If more and more people would just
seek out first hand DIR from someone well versed
in teaching it, there would be more and more
people understanding and less people bashing -
usually without the clear concept at the outset.
