If he swallowed some water and something nasty was in it, that would probably be the scheme. Once he got a water in, he got nauseaus. While "feeding" fish, he indulged some more water (with bad stuff) and once he got out, he fed some crabs, got rid of whatever was in his stomach. If he got any sort of skin rush, that would be additional hint? Alergy reaction is pretty violent and sometimes passes also pretty fast once conditions are removed. If there was some sort of industrial waste or a rain washed water or some moron washing an SUV nearby or russian tanker flushing tanks - all that could contribute.
