Those trees exist BECAUSE of the spotted owl and all the other indigenous species! They spread the seeds and eat the mice that eat the seeds Etc. The trees didn't just appear so someone could cut them! There is an ecosystem that has worked well for billions of years. The spotted owl did not create and was NOT the focus of the problem! That particular species had been studied for some time, was on the endangered list giving people the use of existing laws to stop the clearcutting that the independents AND corporations were doing. Independents do not replant AND once a corporation is through with an area they abandon it leaving a sterile system which make new growth (min. 40 years) of TREES, not weeds, impossible to maintain! Those people are not so stupid as to think THAT is the ONLY occupation are they? What were they going to do when all the trees were gone and had 40 years to wait for more? The corporations did not want them on their slopes anyway. If you keep the people desperate they will do anything at any wage and that is what the Inc.s want! Besides There IS a difference between having to change jobs and BEING EXTINCT!
