So what you are saying is that all new divers can ALWAYS use the anchor line to ascend / descend? Give me a break. I can thik of a half dozen common scnarios, off the top of my head, where it would NOT be available. Since the anchor line (or any descent/ascent line) may not alway be available, then what do you do? What about beach diving? There is no anchor line there.

If ascent lines are so critical, then maybe they should be issued as "required dive gear". Are you ready to carry one of these in your bag?

If they are not going to be used post OW classes, then they don't belong in OW classes. If the student can't dive the way they are going to dive after class, then they shouldn't pass!

If an anchor line is there, fine, use it. But don't tell me about how a descent line is needed because a student can't control their buoyancy yet! This is a classic sign they don't belong in the ocean.
