This is not a flame my friend just my opinion.
Normally I agree with "most" things you said and as I have stated in the past your mind and heart is for the safety of ALL divers.
I am not DIR and do not have any plans to do so, but that's my option. To each his own. My dive buddy and I practice safe diving and conservative diving. We dive well within are limits.
I also think that it should be mentioned in the article that you copied from the Rodales board does not explain entirely what the poster was trying to convey. Wasn't he using that article as an argument against backplates in particular. I believe his stance was the vest BC could be used for a PFD and that is what the article was saying as well. I am not a rocket scientist and my reading comprehension isn't the best but that's what I got out of it.
I also have other "issues" but hope to meet you again in person soon to discuss them as well.
