Wouldn't that make that whole article in early 1975 sorta moot?
It was never about machismo, it was that they were mostly junk then. Inflatable baggies that you could strap a tank into.
Local boats did require everybody to have a BC by the mid 80's.... then the requirement sorta petered out.
