John, I've dove the rig both with and without the strap, locally dry steel, the Bahamas T shirt aluminum and I honestly experienced a negligable difference in trim. I dove wrecks, reefs, wall, drifts, caves, tunnels, the whole spectrum. For me, personally, the crotch strap is unecessary, for other divers a necessity. I realize I'm in violation of the DIR holistic mandate but I yam what I yam, my friend. Can't believe the MSRP of that simple piece of webbing with one D ring is $32.00. Halcyon is always going to be a limited niche market with prices like that.
