Regardless of how you started, the important thing is that you gain experience and continue your education. One of the most attractive things about diving for me is that there is always more to learn. Someone willing to do their own legwork is going to get more out of that learning process than one who just listens to others' opinions. Some people here provide good information but with a poor delivery. Others can be more effective communicators, but have little to back up what they say. The real job is to sort out the facts and worhwhile advice from the BS. I've picked up some ideas off this board that have made real improvements in my diving.
