first thing i would suggest you do is to look into
the back inflate system--the one i use and would
recommend is the 'halcyon' wing, the alum plate
i use was custom made by an acquaintance, but
'aul' recently picked up his line of plates.
the sta i use was also custom made by another
friend.
anyway, if you are able to borrow someone's
back inlate rig, i highly recommend that you
at least consider that type of rig when shopping
and comparing.
as for qualities to look for in a b.c.:
**comfort
**reliability
**comfort
**good control (ie, no air trapping to screw up your buoyancy)
**comfort
**fit
the reasons i switched from my 'seaquest diva qd'
(which is a good b.c., i might add) were b/c the
halcyon rig was:
**more comfortable for me
**did not trap air and, i believe, is more streamlined
best wishes.
