I have a 22 foot Crystaliner that I take diving all the time. I've taken it to San Clemente Island a couple of times, as well as Catalina 100+ times. It is a cuddy cabin with a large V berth for my dive buddy to sleep in all the way to the dive site. :-) I used to dive from my 12 1/2' inflatable. I made at least 25 trips to Catalina in that. It was a lot of fun, but when the swells pick up, it was quite an adventure. On my 22' boat, I have RADAR, Fishfinder/GPS and VHF radio, as well as backup handheld VHF and GPS. If you don't already have it, get Vessel Assist or one of the other towing services. For less than $100 per year, they will assist you any time. The cost of a tow from Catalina without coverage can be $500 or more!
