"What makes good editing?"

...well, i'm certainly no 'expert', but i was
a moderator that had the power to directly delete
posts on the 'diverlink' forum.

i knew it was going to be difficult b/c usually,
not always, but typically, the 'regulars' of the
board didn't understand sometimes why their own
posts were being deleted, but they sure loved
to demand that posts by 'outsiders' be deleted.

the best strategy i could use was to have a set
standard of what WAS and what WASN'T appropriate
and then i tried to be as consistent as i possibly
could--irrespective of WHO posted.

i think the key is to have a VERY defined criteria (a
standard, so to speak) of what is deletable and what
is allowable (and, to be honest, i'm not sure if such
a criteria actually exists w/this forum); and then the
'enforcement' part of it--or the consistency which
i referred to--has to be exercised AT ALL TIMES, you
really can't be lax on this point.

again, just to reiterate:

**hard, definable, unwavering criteria
**consistency, consistency, consistency in enforcing the editing

i think that will create a fair editing policy,
as fair as it can be.

kelphead.
