Found it many years and thousands of dives ago: NEVER DIVE WITH A BUDDY. That's my personal system which I neither advocate, promote, nor endorse. Interesting, though, that not once in the course of those thousands of dives over 37 years in every major body of water in the world have I EVER encountered or had to deal with even a single out of air situation. The need never arose. Am I a non-recurring phenomenon? I don't think so. But am I prepared to deal with it in the unlikely event the need arises in my diving future? You betcha.
Come on, fellow soloists, step up to the plate.
