Very similar fate as our own UB-88 which was paraded up and own both the east and west coasts as part of a war bond drive before being sunk off San Pedro by the Wickes (DD75) in a gunnery excercise. Wickes was Halsey's first command.
Do you know if the UC-97 was ever located? If it's in Lake Michigan, it must be in pretty good condition-if you could see it!
