John,

You raise some fair points and I want to speak in generics rather then to a particular diver, lest anyone think I'm slamming him/her..

Pre-dive planning somehow or another has become viewed as an unecessary annoyance and looked down upon by many experienced recreational diver's..

We try to do extensive pre-dive planning and couple that with post dive de-briefs.. We do them so often that NO one on our team even thinks twice about it.. We could have a text book dive, but we would still de-brief and review protocols and we would certainly do our pre-dive checks, including, but not limited to; dive plan, gas management, depths, distance, deco, equipment checks and pocket content checks.. One calls them off while the other touches each piece...

I'd love to see more people do that...

Later
