I had the displeasure of visiting Dallas TX and walking into one of the local shops there (also happens to be a chain in that area)...Scuba West. Were I was promptly greeted by the 'Training Director' who suggested that I was in luck as I could enter his special ow class (special because he was teaching it and all of his 10000 dives experience would immediately be transfered to me the student). Wow mr 10K dives, where is it that you actually did all of these? (I asked as I dusted off my mental abacus to compute the ridiculous number)....Why in the pool for most of them......What!!? Pool dives now count? I was told yes and all this experience would yield a better class for me (SSI). So I can see how DIR and a GUE training agency would be a little more than a thorn in the side of these big shot instructors. Stealing their thunder and pulling down their macho pants to reveal underroos of unqualification is what they fear. Fear not my friends as the pool you will always be the master of.
