Frank,

As you know I have been assisting Andrew G in a wide variety of GUE classes,, Ranging from Fundamentals through Tech level 2. Based on these classes you'd be surprised how very few people have the skill down to shoot a lift bag properly. Furthermore, it's not uncommon for people who aren't familiar with shooting a bag to loose bouyancy, trim and take an extraodinary amount of time to deploy a bag.. In strong curents and with support teams those issues are very important and could mean the difference between life and death.. For that reason alone when you get into advanced diving John Walker was 100% correct that the deployment of a lift bag should be covered in a quality training class..

Most deploy a bag during the 70' gas switch and if you can't hold your bouyancy and you are trying to optimize the 02 windows and use a 50% 02 mix and you can't hold the 70' stop while shooting the bag and find your self at 90' you could tox, or if you find yourself at 50' you've just blown off mandatory decompression stops and you've helped increase the size of any bubbles. This is serious stuff that needs to be considered and demonstrated in proper classes and practiced post class..
